human-centered designer

MAllory Ann

Hello, I’m Mallory — a multidisciplinary designer working across brand, digital, and spatial design.

Over the past decade, I’ve used human-centered and empathic design to bring to life projects that touch people’s everyday experiences. My work has ranged from collaborations with nonprofits, tech, healthcare, and academic organizations to partnering with small businesses, brands, and creatives to build their visions from the ground up — always grounded in curiosity, storytelling, and connection.

Having spent much of my career in small, creative teams, I’ve cultivated an entrepreneurial mindset and a deep belief in design as an medium for social and cultural transformation. I’m now expanding my focus toward community-oriented and sustainable design — particularly in the cohousing and built environment space — while remaining open to collaborations across any field that values creative work rooted in empathy and connection. Above all, I’m inspired by creating meaningful experiences that connect people to purpose and place.

  • VEXCEL

    2018 - 2024

Led the design of a web and mapping platform for the world’s largest aerial imagery and geospatial data program, translating complex geospatial information into clear, approachable digital experiences. Collaborated with engineers, product managers, and the people using our tools to map real-world journeys and gather insights from practical applications in the field.

Launched the company’s first integrated platform — including a mapping web app, reporting portal, and marketing websites — and successfully delivered 20+ new product features that improved accessibility and clarity across teams and industries.

As one of the company’s earliest team members, I led the marketing department, helped open multiple offices, and organized women’s empowerment circles to foster connection and inclusivity within a rapidly growing startup. I joined as employee number 15 and contributed to its expansion. It is now a successful 300-plus-person organization.

RECENT WORK

  • My process begins with deeply empathizing through conversations, and listening to understand what needs are present.

  • Then, I define what it is I heard - making sure to get clear on what problem we're solving. The defining stage gives us direction and checks our assumptions at the door.

  • Next, I expand my mind by ideating various solutions. Here I let my creativity run wild and allow new ways of approaching the problem to emerge.

  • I’ll select a few directions that seem most aligned and create prototypes. This gives us something to feel out before designing anything too concrete.

  • Finally, we take the concepts that stick and bring them into a tangible reality.
